All of our pendants come packaged in a beautiful gift box, and include a special filling kit with instructions.
Below are some general instructions.
Filling a pendant for ashes or cremation jewellery can be a very stressful thing for many people. It is quite straight forward, however if you prefer, you could ask your local funeral director. We have found that they are usually more than happy to assist with this task if you are finding it too overwhelming. Which is completely understandable.
Memorial jewellery is designed to hold a tiny keepsake, a little cremation ashes, a lock hair. The compartments do vary in size depending on the style chosen, however they are mostly quite small for a little symbolic keepsake.
There are two main types of openings for memorial jewellery. One is a screw-in bail at the top, and the other is a threaded screw (usually at the bottom) that sits flush with the pendant. When filling the pendant here are the steps you should follow:
- Place a piece of paper or soft cloth on a flat surface. This will prevent any small parts from being lost or damaged.
- Open the compartment gently by unscrewing the bail at the top (or using the key provided for pendants that don’t have the bail, but have threaded screw).
- Hold the mini-funnel (we provide) in the opening.
- Carefully remove a tiny amount of the keepsake or ash (the finest particles) from the container it is stored in with a small spoon.
- Gently push the keepsake into the pendant and use the toothpick to collect any ashes or particles that have remained in the thread where the screw goes in.
- GENTLY close and ensure that the screw sits flat. Do not force the screw lower than the surface of the pendant.
We recommend permanently sealing the pendant. It is not entirely waterproof without following this step. This can be done by applying a two-part adhesive glue, which can be applied using the tip of the toothpick. Don’t use too much and work quickly so the glue doesn’t dry before you put the screw in. Make sure the screw and pendant will sit flat (particularly the bail pendants where the chain needs to run through the bail) so they sit properly on your chain after your keepsake has been sealed. You can also ask a jeweller to seal your pendant for you. The pendants are not designed to be opened and closed lots of times.
